About Me

Welcome to Quilting with Kris!

My name is Kris Nelson and I live in Southwest Nebraska. I've been married for over 30 years to my husband Wayne  and we have two married daughters , my oldest Karmon and her husband Clint live very close to me, they have  a 13 month old son named Walker. My youngest daughter lives with her husband Erik, in Kansas City Mo. I work for FedEx Express as a courier and my route runs on highway 36 in Kansas. Most of the time I think I work so I can buy more fabric to quilt! I always take my breaks at the two quilt stores on my route, I just love looking at different fabrics. I'm sure they love to see me coming, I just can't seem to leave without buying something. I also enjoy gardening in the summer and canning many different kinds of jellies.

  1. Kris, I don't see your email on our site. Here's brief intro to my blog tour idea.

We just launched a new line of Cotton Solids that are 100% Made in America (americanmadebrand.com). I'm planning a blog tour thru each of the 50 states - "Travel the US! No Gas Required!" It involves designing a license plate block for your state, writing instructions for making it, blogging about it with a fabric giveaway (we'll provide) and then selling your block pattern (or offering as a free download). I’m hoping the 50 block designs strike accord with sewers and become collectible!

Few things to help you envision:
    - License plates are 12” W x 6” H, so that’s the size of everyone’s finished block. I’d want you to send me an unfinished block (12 ½” x 6 ½”) to make into a full 50 state show quilt.
    - You can use whatever techniques & tools you like but would need to use our cottons. I’ll send you 13 x 7” cuts of each of our 50 solids to work with.
    - My plan is to run the tour 2 states/day, M-F, in order of yr of statehood starting on 5/19.

Since you’re in Nebraska, state #37, would you be able to design a fun block for a 6/12 blog post? I’m hoping so! I’d just need your address to know where to send the fabric to! : )

Let me know what you think!

    1. Candice...yes I'm interested, didn't know at first if I was up to this, but it's starting to sound like fun....The quilt shop in Norton Ks. where I stop and take my break had told me a couple of weeks ago about this line of solids they were going to switch over to and it's this very one. My email address is kristinenelson57@gmail.com, I have some questions for you...let me know what the first step will be to getting this project started....Thank you...Kris
