Farmer’s Wife Pony Quilt Club Blocks….only 18 to go!

Well, I’ve been sewing on my FWPC blocks and only have 18 more to do….I need a total of 90 of them, so I’m doing pretty good…they are 8 1/2” unfinished and all of them are different. I would say that at least a third of the blocks have a lot of set-in seams…You really have to know what you are doing to make this quilt. It’s quite a challenge and I’m sure enjoying it…I think I’ll go back and look through all of my blocks and if there are some I’m not happy with I will redo them…I know of a couple that I just don’t like. We will have to see when the time comes!

And here are the latest 22 blocks that I’ve made…I’m using fabric scraps and basically anything goes! I’m not matching colors or anything like that…It’s kind of nice to know that I’m not having to buy any fabric for this one…only the black for the sashing….woo hoo!

And here are my bargains from last week…the top three are thimbleberries,which I really like and I bought 7-8 yards of these…emptied the bolts on all four of them….they were 75% off ! I only paid a little over $2 a yard for these…..which will work great for backings…this makes me very happy!

I’ve also made a few more hats….My sister Barb will be here this coming weekend so I’ll just send them with her so she can sell them for me! I still need to add some ‘tails’ to a few of these…..but that won’t take too long.

I’m sewing and loving every minute of it!

I’m on vacation this week and I’ve been in my sewing room 10 hours every day….It’s been wonderful! I finished my Vintage Tins quilt….and have started a new B.O.M. called: Prairie Rose with fabric designed by Jo Morton. I also dug out my Farmer’s Wife Pony Club Quilt blocks and have started in on those….I’m over the halfway point now, I think the reason I enjoy doing these blocks is that anything goes. I’m using all kinds of fabric scraps and just having a fun time deciding what to use for each block…some I’m not so happy with the colors choices once they’re done, but I’m not changing any of them. I think once they are in the quilt, it will all look good together. I think I’ll end up sashing it in black. I’m still crocheting in the evenings before I go to bed…I’ll be sending about 50 hats to my sister in Iowa so she can sell them  in her store.

I love my vintage tins quilt…instead of using all black, cream and white, I threw in some red and golds….I am very happy with how it turned out. That was a lot of embroidery too!

These are the first three blocks of my Prairie Rose BOM….I love the fabric…it reminds me a little of civil war fabrics and I’m in a  love relationship with civil war fabrics right  now! As soon as I walk in a fabric store they start calling my name.

These are the latest blocks I’ve made for my FWPC quilt….there will be 90 of them and they are 8 1/2” unfinished. I think I’ve gotten 50 of them made now….

Amish With a Twist BOM

I only have one more month of my Amish With a Twist Block of the Month left to do…..I’m all caught up, so I’m feeling pretty good about it! I think it is turning out pretty nice….much different than what I usually tend to gravitate towards.

The colors aren’t right in this picture….they are very bright and this just doesn’t do them justice. These blocks finish at 14 5/8”…there will be black sashing and a cornerstone between these blocks. Then a keyboard border, more black with an applique in two of the corners.  So…another month and this one will be done and it will be in the mail to Kelly Kreft to be quilted.

  The latest three Farmer’s Wife Pony Club blocks…I think I’m almost half done with the blocks now. I’m trying to get at least one done a day, so I will be done with this quilt in another 6 weeks or so….but knowing me it will probably be done sooner than that. These blocks are 8 1/2” unfinished.

And here is my helper “Wilber” taking a nap on the job. I made him his own ‘box’ bed with some fleece in it. Hopefully he’ll be sleeping in it instead of on all my fabric!

I won the battle of the curves!

I redid the curved block and I got the job done! It’s not perfect, but it will definitely work….I was pretty frustrated on Friday when the first one I attempted turned out awful, this new one I finished will look fine in the quilt. These are the latest in the FWPC blocks….I have about 58 left to make….some of the next ones coming up are pretty crazy….tons of little pieces in each 8 inch block.

I’ve been having a great time working on my Vintage Tin embroidery. My finger is pretty sore, once I get going on an embroidery project  I go at it until my finger bleeds. I eventually get a hard layer of skin on my needle pushing finger…..this really does help the situation.

This really won’t take me too long to do….these motorcycles will probably take the longest to do of all of the embroidery blocks. They are small compared to a couple of the other ones, but there is a lot of detail in these. When I start piecing the blocks that go in this quilt I’m going to be adding some very dark red fabric. The pattern is shown in black, cream and beiges. I think some splashes of red will be quite stunning!

It’s raining outside…I was going to mow the front yard before I went to work today, but that’s out of the question now. I’m wondering if the country roads will be muddy, I just might be sticking to the highways today.

A busy sewing week….

My vacation is almost over, but I’ve  gotten quite a bit done this week.  We went to St. Joe Missouri to visit our daughter and her husband, and while there Lesley and I went shopping. It’s funny how our tastes in fabric are definitely not the same. My niece who is also pregnant is not sticking with traditional ‘baby’ colors either. As long as I know what they want, it’s not so hard. I’ve got two baby throws done for my soon to be little granddaughter….nothing fancy but very soft and something that will be used a lot. Lots of Minkee in the them…..

I started working on my Farmer’s Wife Pony Club quilt about two weeks ago, and I’m up to 30 blocks done, so only 60 more to go! I’m really enjoying working on them since they are all different and I’m using up my stash. They finish at 8 1/2 inches per block. I will repeat the fact that unless you are very experienced with piecing you will have nothing but trouble with this book. Lots and lots of set in seams and absolutely no instructions…you just have to know what to do. I’m working on one block right now that I’m going to be throwing away and trying my hand at again. It’s got a bunch of curved seams and they are giving me fits….I usually don’t have any trouble with curved seams, but something is just not right. I’m a bit frustrated right now!

I got out my Vintage Tins pattern last night and started doing some embroidery, this one won’t take me too long to finish. The embroidery blocks are all pretty small and most of the blocks aren’t too intricate….(except for the motorcycle block!) This is the first one I grabbed and I almost finished it last night while watching T.V. with my husband. I love to have handwork laying around so I can just grab it and work on it whenever the mood strikes.

Well, it’s back to work on Monday and I’m going to miss having all of the extra time I had sewing this week. Oh well, I’ve got to earn money so I can buy more fabric….

The Farmer’s Wife Pony Club

I’ve done so much hand stitching the last month I was just itching to piece something at the sewing machine…..so I started on my FWPC blocks. I’ve gotten 15 of them done in the last few days. I guess doing 90 different blocks will keep me from getting bored! So I’ve only got 75 to go to finish this quilt! And here they are so far……

I will say that there is no way anyone could do this quilt if they don’t have lots of quilting experience. Basically no directions….Just pictures. A few of the blocks have inset seams too…..I guess I must see it as a challenge and enjoy that part of it.

Another great aspect of this quilt is I use lots of scraps. So I guess this is a stash buster quilt!
